Unlike many of its climbing cousins, the Gloriosum grows along the soil, spreading out gracefully as a horizontal crawler. While it looks like a collector’s prize (and it is!), the Gloriosum is surprisingly manageable with the right care and environment.
-
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can burn the velvety leaves, while too little light may lead to smaller or slower growth.
-
Water: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist, but never soggy. Good drainage is essential to avoid root rot.
-
Humidity: Loves moderate to high humidity (60%+ ideal).
-
Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 18–29°C.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining, chunky aroid mix—a blend of potting soil, perlite, orchid bark, and a bit of sphagnum moss works beautifully.
-
Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer. Pause during the cooler months.
